Welcome to the Theoretical Microbial Ecology group!

Headed by Rosalind J. Allen, we are based at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, in Germany. We are part of the Institute of Microbiology and the Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse.
We study how microbes survive, grow and interact in complex and changing environments. We are especially interested in how bacteria respond to antibiotics in the human body, and how microbial communities assemble and function.
Our research combines mathematical and computational modelling with microbiological and biophysical experiments.
